APIS has been designed to ensure the safe handling and imaging of books without opening them more than 45 degrees. In addition APIS generates high quality images of paper structure in PaperPrint (patent-applied-for) format. PaperPrint is the equivalent of a digital 'fingerprint' of a sheet of hand-made paper. Records are held on a fully searchable database of images. Twin images are taken, using the Advanced Paper Imaging System. The APIS project won a British Government SMART Award in 2003 |
